I am a life-long artisan. I have taught fine arts, as well as, design for over 20 years. I am a father of two teenage boys, both who are immensely talented in their own rights. I created Richards and Sons Artisans with the desire to establish a deeper connection with my sons. It was my hope that they would enjoy creating and building along side their dear old dad long into the future. Matter-of-fact, my son Wyatt created our logo and does all the product shots. Why the Artisan moniker? Aside, from the fact that it just sounds really darn cool. I needed a term that would best identify all the varied interests I have. I have never considered myself strictly a painter, a potter, a metal fabricator or a 3D Modeler. I have experiences and interests in all those things. Nor, have I been entirely comfortable with just “artist” or “designer”. I have always loved the process of conceptualizing and creating stuff with my hands.
Dictionary. com defines Artisan as:
1. a person skilled in an applied art; a craftsperson.
2. a person or company that makes a high-quality or distinctive product in small quantities, usually by hand or using traditional methods
Therefore, the decision was simple. This is the one term that captures all my interests and talents, as well as, those of my sons. Besides, we are not a factory – We strive to develop custom one-of-a-kind handmade creations.
